Using the Advanced Search in WorldCat Discovery

The advanced search option in WorldCat Discovery allows you to craft more intricate search queries across the library's databases.  
 

 

The advanced search offers a myriad of databases to search. The default include the following (but are not limited to):

  • ArticleFirst
  • Electronic Books
  • Electronic Collections Online
  • ERIC
  • GPO Monthly Catalog
  • MEDLINE
  • OAIster
  • PapersFirst
  • ProceedingsFirst
  • WorldCat
  • WorldCat Dissertations and Theses
  • WorldCat.org

If you scroll down past the default options, you will also see listings for psychology and medicine and business databases. 

Elements of Advanced Search

Elements to note in the advanced search option:

  • Search index: Open a drop-down menu to allow you to search different fields
  • Operator: This is a drop-down menu that allows you to choose from the Boolean operators AND, OR, NOT
  • Search Term: Where you enter your search terms
  • Format: Opens a drop-down menu to select from a variety of options regarding item format (manuscript, newspapers, audio, journals, etc.)
  • Publication: Year(s) of publication to be searched
