Be sure to use operators to help refine your search when using Google Scholar. Keep the following advanced operators in mind when conducting a search:
- "-" operator: This functions as the NOT operator, meaning you can use "-" to exclude specific resources from your results page. Example: relationships -romance
- "~" operator: This operator allows you to search synonyms for that word. Example: ~teenager
- Phrase search: This will search Google Scholar as an exact phrase. Example: "gender identity"
- OR operator: This operator will return either of your search terms in the results page. Example: intervention or treatment
- Author operator: author:bears will return articles in Google Scholar written by authors sharing this name, while bears -author:bears will return results about bears, and will ignore any articles written by authors with that last name.
