Using Advanced Search in Google Scholar

View this video on how to utilize the advanced search feature in Google Scholar. A transcript of the video is available below as well.

Site Search and Filetype Search

In Google Scholar (and a general Google search), you can use field codes to track down specific filetypes such as PowerPoint slides or retrieve information from a website (.edu, org, .gov, etc.). This type of search can be very useful if you're hoping to track down information from a government website or a specific slide presentation. Take a look at the following two screenshots to see how you can conduct these types of searches yourself.

You can specify which domain you'd like to pull results from. Be sure to enter the following before your keywords: site:.gov, site:.edu, or site:.org.

When searching for a particular filetype in Google Scholar, enter filetype:ppt (or any other filetype designation) before your keywords.
