APA Citation 7th Edition

Social media

The seventh edition of the Publication Manual provides insight as to how to effectively cite various social media platforms. To note, there are some rules to follow:

  1. Original content through social media: If you located original content through a social media platform (this content could include blog posts and news articles), please cite the original source. As an example, a news article attached to a tweet should be the focus of your citation; you do not need to mention that you found it through a link on social media.
  2. Titles: The first twenty words of a social media post are to be included. Some social media posts may use alternative spelling and capitalization; do not alter any spelling or capitalization in a social media reference.
